It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's challenging for their batters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to produce her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive nature activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and from there Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament need to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this success following success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

However although she afterwards confessed those physical issues have postponed plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
